NYC is buzzing with up-and-coming fashion talent. As far as fashion in the North America is concerned, NYC is Mecca. And as part of New York Fashion Week, I had the privilege of attending The Set NYC's Fashion Benefit to raise money for a charity called Love 146, that fights child trafficking worldwide. This is an issue that is near and dear to my heart because it is an issue that greatly affects girls and boys in so many countries all over the world, including my mother's homeland of The Philippines and the country I was raised in - Thailand. The benefit took place at an amazing space: The Church of the Holy Apostles in Chelsea. I have to say it was really cool to watch a fashion show at a church. The first outfit below is by Autumn Lin Kietponglert and the second by Kristin Costa, both very talented avant-garde designers.
The night featured fashion shows with two other up-and-coming design talent, Lucina Lu & Yossi for Kevin Shahroozi.
I really dug the polka dots from Lucina Lu's collection.
And I love these custom made leather trousers from Yossi for Kevin Shahroozi.
I also got to meet the designer himself! Kevin was really nice and also such a cutie!
Of course, the best part of the night was sharing it with my friends.
I couldn't imagine a better way to end my experience at Fashion Week New York 2014 than attending this benefit. I noticed that people in the fashion industry tend to smile less frequently than people in the travel sphere. So I'm going to be practicing the fashion industry non-smile (see photo below) that I learnt from jewelry and watch designer Phil Harris so that I'll be ready for the next Fashion Week!
